Financial Aid Office
- Financial aid is given to academically qualified and financially needy students to help them pay for study-related expenses such as tuition, housing, and books. There are several types of financial aid available.
1. University Administered Awards (Bursaries)
- These are provided by donors who have made funds available for the University to administer based on predetermined criteria. University Administered Awards are only available to second, third, and fourth-year students. Applicants must be South African citizens with a very good academic record, be financially needy, and make a family contribution to their studies. The size of the prizes varies.
2. NSFAS (Bursary/Loan)
- NSFAS Loans are available to students who are both financially needy and academically deserving. The criteria are included in the application form as well as in the NSFAS brochure (for more information on NSFAS, see the ‘Contact us section of this page).
3. Merit Bursaries
- These are available to first-year students who received an A-aggregate in Grade 12 the year before their first registration at the University.
4. Nominated Awards
- Off-campus organizations provide these services. Bursaries or scholarships are awarded directly to students who apply to private companies, non-governmental organizations, and other organizations. Students must ensure that they submit copies of their award letters to the appropriate financial aid office staff member.
