Online applications for international and RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) are now available.
Admission Prerequisites
- The prerequisites for the various courses offered by CPUT can be found under Courses and costs. You may also be asked to take a number of exams to aid in your placement.
Students enrolled in the Cambridge system should be aware of the following prerequisites:
- At least five IGCSE and HIGCSE topics must be passed, with at least two at the HIGCSE level.
a passing grade in the university’s primary language of instruction (English or Afrikaans).
Passing grades: A, B, or C for IGCSE; 1, 2, or 3 for HIGCSE.
Additional senior school credentials will be considered.
assessment of foreign credentials
- Before applying to CPUT, all overseas undergraduate and postgraduate degrees must be examined and certified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). It must be submitted with both your paper and online applications.
Because it can take a little longer, the student is responsible for applying to SAQA as soon as possible.

Beginning in August 2014, SAQA will only accept online applications from overseas applicants. please go here
Your application should include the following:
- All certifications, including the highest school diploma, are provided by the recognized testing organization.
When a post-graduate degree or other advanced degree is submitted, all degrees or other higher education qualifications, as well as transcripts of all academic work, are completed. - Foreign-language documents must be accompanied by sworn English translations performed by a certified translator.
linguistic proficiency in English
- You must have a certain level of English proficiency to succeed in your studies. A grade of A or O in English, a TOEFL score of at least 550, or an International Testing System score of 6.5 are all acceptable proofs of proficiency (IELTS). Any additional post-secondary English language qualifications will be taken into account.
- Through a mentorship program, the Fundani Centre for Higher Educational Development assists students in improving their English proficiency within their field of study.
