On the official TUT admissions form, first-year students should indicate whether they wish to apply for residential housing. The unconditional acceptance of these students for a full-time academic qualification at TUT will be the criteria used to select them. The date of unconditional acceptance by the faculty will be used for further selection if there are too many first-year students who meet the requirements for a residence.

By the end of October, seniors who are returning must submit an online application for a residence space for the following year. After logging into their Student iEnabler accounts, students have the option of selecting or clicking the Residence Application. They also have the option of going directly to the following address: Login is available at https://tutprodi4app.tut.ac.za/pls/prodi41/w99pkg.mi. Students returning will not be guaranteed a place in housing the following year if they do not follow this procedure. The criteria of the placement policy will be used to select these students. The primary requirements are as follows:

• The student must have passed all semester and year courses or have a minimum academic average of 50% (or 55 percent for senior residences).
  The student should not spend more than the maximum number of years in any TUT residence. The minimum number of academic years required by TUT to successfully complete a qualification is the maximum number of years, plus one year.
  The student is required to register for at least two subjects. Subjects registered for purposes other than earning a degree will not be considered.

Following academic registration, all other students should submit an online housing application at the start of the academic year for which they are looking for housing. After these applications have been reviewed, first-year students and returning senior students will be chosen based on the same criteria as returning students and in a first-come, first-served manner. ​
