• 1.1 Undergraduate degree applicants must have a National Senior Certificate for Degree Studies (NSC-Deg) or a Senior Certificate with endorsement.
• 1.2 Applicants for an undergraduate diploma must have a National Senior Certificate for Diploma Studies (NSC-Dip) or Senior Certificate.

• At UKZN, English is the medium of instruction, and a Level 4 (50% or higher) pass in English (Home Language or First Additional Language (FAL)) is required. In contrast, the College of Law requires a pass in English Home Language at Level 5 or English as FAL at Level 6. Despite a lower English proficiency, admission to Diploma or Alternative Access programs may be possible. A pass in English at First or Second Language HG E is required for the Senior Certificate.

• Level 4 life orientation is required for all UKZN degree programs. Access Programs may consider a Level 3 pass.

  Each program has established a minimum composite Academic Performance Score for admission. This is the bare minimum for consideration, and students who fall short of this standard will not be admitted. APS is used to rank applicants to programs, and selection is done from the top down until the program’s available spots are filled. There is a lot of competition for spots, and applicants who do not meet the APS for a particular program are unlikely to be considered.
