You can learn more about the requirements for the 2024–2025 Wits Online application on this page.

Documents Required for WITS Application The following documents must be submitted in order to apply to WITS:

  • completed application form, a copy of your ID, and your most recent school year’s results. If you have attended another higher education institution in the past, we need a copy of your academic transcript.
The completed application form and evidence that you paid the required application fee must be submitted.
Online applications are accepted for the University of the Witwatersrand unless you have already graduated.
To submit an application online, go to wits.ac.za/applications.
There can only be three degrees applied simultaneously (it doesn’t matter which one is chosen).
If you want to apply to two programs in the same faculty (such as the humanities, commerce, or science), it is best to submit one application to each faculty with fewer restrictions.
Keep your options open, especially when applying to engineering or health sciences programs.
Foreign applicants must pay a R700 application fee, while South African citizens must pay a R700 application fee.
Additional Forms: Are there any additional admission requirements for your degree program?
Performances, National Benchmark Testing, portfolio and essay submissions, and performances are additional selection criteria for some degrees. Please review the Additional Forms below to see if this applies to you.

Admission Point Score (APS)

  • Are you a candidate who has completed the NSC matriculation or is currently taking it? If you are, please review the information below regarding the admission requirements.
Keep in mind that this is just an idea. You might not get a spot, even if you meet the requirements. The availability of space, academic standing, and any additional entry requirements that may apply all play a role in the final decision.

How Wits determines each subject’s grade is as follows:

  • English must be studied, whether as a first language or a second language.
All numerate programs in Science, Engineering and the Built Environment, Business, Law and Management, and Math are prerequisites.
Some degrees require math proficiency (see Admission Requirements (NSC)).
When calculating the admission point score (APS), Wits does not differentiate between designated and undesignated subjects. The top seven subjects, including Life Orientation, are used to calculate the APS.
