- Walter Sisulu University (WSU) was founded on July 1, 2005, in accordance with Higher Education Act No. 101 of 1997, modified
Walter Max Ulyate Sisulu, a famous figure in the liberation movement in South Africa and a close ally of Nelson Mandela, is the name of the new university.
In October 2011, the Council, Management, and WSU stakeholders requested that WSU be placed under management. On April 30, 2014, this presidency came to an end. Over the past two and a half years, numerous new procedures and systems have been implemented to stabilize the university and set it on a new course.
WSU’s current turnaround strategy includes significant infrastructure enhancements, a reevaluation of the academic business, ICT infrastructure, financial sustainability, and human resource management. On January 17, 2014, a brand-new institutional law was made public, and in May 2014, a new council took over as administrator.
WSU will concentrate on cutting-edge educational, research, and community collaboration initiatives that are mindful of continental and global imperatives while also being sensitive to development issues on a national, regional, and local level.
